First China Health Policy Translation Network Forum

Prof. Hu Shanlian welcomes participants to the First Health Policy Translation Network.

The First China Health Policy Translation Network Forum, held September 19-20 in Shanghai, convened health researchers and policy-makers to discuss ways to improve connectivity between the health sector’s knowledge suppliers and knowledge users. Despite the importance of health policy research translation, there has been little exchange amongst these two communities.  This September program highlighted some of the barriers and factors influencing health policy translation, drawing on recent experience in Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Shenzhen, and Ningbo.

Representatives of a number of CMB’s Collaborating Programs were in attendance, and they contributed ideas on ways that evidence can help craft sound solutions. They offered insights from their research related to burden of disease, migrant health, mental health, and pharmaceutical policy, and highlighted ways that health systems policy, bioethics, and health technology assessment can facilitate solutions. Through its CPs, CMB aims to support research that introduces faculty and students to new tools for evidence-based medicine and policy-making.
