Strengthening of Medical Education and Research
This three-year proposal for $250,000 aims to improve the quality of medical education and research at the University of Medicine in Mandalay. Regional study tours of medical schools with different educational systems will be made available to faculty members to broaden their outlook. Short term visits to related research and training centers will expand the knowledge of doctoral trainees. Master degree courses in specialties of basic science subjects not available in Myanmar will be offered to staff members. To further improve quality of medical education, a consultant will be hired to train and educate teaching and laboratory staff in specific fields. Ensuring access to the internet and on-line medical journals and improved local area network connections will improve quality of research. Equipment such as closed circuit television and multimedia projectors will also be purchased.
