CMB Launches Global Health Leadership Development Program
The China Medical Board (CMB) is pleased to announce the launch of the CMB Global Health Leadership Development Program, a new capacity-building program that will train young Chinese health professionals in global health research and practice. The program aims to bring together a network of outstanding low- and middle-income country (LMIC) training sites across different regions that have the infrastructure, leadership, and mentoring experience to provide high-quality global health training to the CMB fellows. Program operating institutions at the Yale School of Medicine and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) – two world-leading institutions in the field of global health – will administer the program for the first term.
Up to eight fellows will be selected for the first cohort through a rigorous in-country and external selection process. Selected fellows will participate in one year of tailored training, which comprises up to three months of orientation and training at one of the program operating institutions, and at least nine months of hands-on field work on a specific global health project at one of the host LMIC sites. CMB will provide all selected fellows with full funding support, including living stipend, project and research stipend, international travel, and medical insurance.
This program is open to early-career Chinese health professionals committed to a career in global health. Through the program, CMB Global Health Leadership Fellows will have the opportunity to undertake a fellowship at one of the world's top universities, gain rich practical field work experience in global health, and establish collaborative relationships with expert teams from other countries and regions, which will greatly contribute to their long-term career development.
The application process for the first cohort starts in August 2021, with program activities for fellows slated to begin in the fall of 2022. The two program operating institutions, Yale School of Medicine and the LSHTM, which have long-term collaborative relationships with CMB, have prepared a list of host sites in over 20 countries and regions, including Asia, Africa and Latin America, and a team of distinguished program faculty in various global health fields.
