Thailand National Health Professional Education Initiative and Prince Mahidol Award Conference

This proposal supports at $500,000 over three years a national Thai initiative to promote innovations in health professional education following the recommendations of the Lancet Global Commission report “Health Professionals for a New Century." Thailand proposes a national evidence-based stakeholder process focusing on multi-professional learning to develop professionals who can perform more effectively in community-based health systems. The national work will feed into the January 2014 Prince Mahidol Award Conference (PMAC) which will be devoted to this theme and will also constitute a major celebratory event of CMB’s 100th anniversary in Asia. A national commission composed of academic and governmental Thai leaders of medical, nursing, public health and pharmacy will oversee and promote the national initiative to be implemented by a multi-professional Thai network linked to regional and global partners in knowledge generation and sharing. The initiative will include a national Situation Analysis to understand trends and demands of health, community and health professional education, to identify innovations, to promote participation of professional groups, and to generate a national strategic plan for implementation.During the process, stakeholders will meet regularly seeking consensus for reform. Thailand will outreach partners in five countries, lead cooperation of regional network members, jointly present findings on global conferences and features its national work at the 2014 PMAC.
