Student Professionalism Assessment System for Medical Education
There is a lack of consensus over definition, an absence of reliable and valid tools to measure, and disagreement over criteria to assess professional behavior and competence in medical education in China. This five year proposal aims to establish an effective Student Professionalism Assessment System (SPAS) for China. Practicing physicians, faculty, staff, and students will be consulted and a systematic studies would be undertaken to establish common criteria for medical professionalism to be produced in medical education.A formal SPAS will be developed to be tested in the four CMB medical education centers to assess student professional performance. Training of assessors, developing of data recording systems, and data management will be part of this effort. he professionalism values will be integrated into the education system and several committees will be established to focus upon the education and effective implementation of the project. A webpage and faculty development system focused on training professionalism education and assessment of the faculties will be created by faculties from the four CMB medical education center. A research agenda including the assessment of baseline knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and outcome measure will be initiated and an affiliation agreement between medical schools in China will provide collaboration in dissemination.
