To Start a China Center for Health Research

To strengthen health policy research capacity, Fudan University plans to establish a China Center for Health Research as a premier institution providing a solid platform in the fields of health policy and system sciences in China. The new Center’s mission is to enable the integration of human resources from multiple disciplines to conduct high priority research in health policy. The goals are to continuously build capacity in China, to promote the relevant interdisciplinary studies and thus to steadily demonstrate the impact of evidence on national and regional health policy development. A steering committee will be created consisting of both domestic and international scientific advisors for academic guidance. Academic activities of the center will include research in three primary domains: health security and economics, healthcare delivery assessment, and disease prevention and control. The Center will build capacity through new systematic and serial courses and workshops on health policy, supporting and creating forums and seminars, and commencing international exchange with global recruitment of faculty members. Potential outcomes will include: publications, evaluation reports and systematic suggestions on healthcare, interaction with policymakers and impacts on health related policy, and education/training packages on health policy and systems for capacity building. The principal investigator for this project is Professor Wang Weiping.
