Second Global Symposium on Health Systems Research
This requests a Trustee appropriation of $500,000 in principle for grant finalization by the President conditional upon satisfactory progress in the planning of the Second Symposium of Health Systems Research in Beijing in November 2012. The First Symposium hosted by WHO was conducted in Montreux, Switzerland in November 2010. The event was considered a great success attracting more than 1,200 enthusiastic participants. Montreux brought together scientists, old and young, at the cutting edge of health systems research, featuring major plenary sessions, breakout groups, poster displays, and promotion of young scholar participation. More than 100 Chinese, about a third supported by CMB, were excited by the Symposium and at the conclusion accepted an invitation for China to host the Second Symposium. A planning meeting of the Second Symposium was conducted in Beijing on May 1-2, 2011 which will lead to the finalization of a draft project proposal. The China symposium is expected to attract up to 2,000 participants with as many as 500 Chinese participants. PUHSC and the China Ministry of Health are enthusiastic about hosting this international event, which will strengthen CMB’s health policy and systems sciences program. This proposed CMB contingent grant would match a pledge of $500,000 for the Second Symposium from the Rockefeller Foundation.
