Public Health Practical Training Site Development

This three year proposal for $100,000 aims to develop field training in public health education to improve students’ practical competencies to meet the new needs and challenges in China, with a special focus on environmental and occupational. The plan involves first reviewing current public health policies and plans, identifying evolving needs, and piloting practical field training. The activities will entail surveys and questionnaire of different types of public health agencies including institutes of preventive medicine, hospitals and the China CDC. A curriculum committee will be convened to review existing practical training program, outline deficiencies, and propose major amendments and new activities. Feedback will be gathered from students and teachers. A summary report of new needs and requirements of current and future works in public health in China will be presented. Four to five papers related to the reform of practical education in public health will be published.
