The goal of this 3-year project is to assess the feasibility, effectiveness, and requirements for an experimental primary care – community hospital model of psychiatric care in rural Guangxi. Breaking away from traditional hospital models, Liujiang County was selected in 2006 as an experimental site for a rural hospital-community service pattern of psychiatric care in Guangxi province. The project will assess the Liujiang County experience in comparison to a control county, focusing on key aspects of human resource demands and requirements through quantitative and qualitative survey and questionnaire/interview of practitioners in these counties. The goal of the evaluation is to shape health policies on rural mental health services in Guangxi.
