Health Survey and Research Capacity Development
This project for $474,099 over three years would support an unprecedented health survey of Tibet autonomous region to advance understanding of unique health conditions among people living in this high altitude geography and also engage young faculty of Tibet University Medical College to strengthen research capacity. This project brings together an unusual combination of collaborators of the Medical College with the Regional Health Bureau, and collaborating domestic and international expertise. The project was developed after more than one year of intensive planning by Tibet with collaborators supported by a CMB planning grant. The project entails statistically sampling Tibetan households and health facilities to landscape health services and health systems in Tibet, which will serve the triple purposes of medical college educational curriculum, research capacity building, and policy input for the regional health bureau. Data, analyses, and a report are planned outputs of the project which should provide a useful and unique situation analysis of health conditions and health services in this remote, high altitude province.
