Core Courses in China's Medical Education Reform

The goal of this two year proposal is to restructure medical education in PUHSC as part of a Chinese effort to meet current societal needs and to re-define professional values in medical education. A cross-cultural and cross-national comparison of medical curriculums will be carried out by five leading professors from the Peking schools of medicine, basic medical sciences, and university hospitals. The professors will each lead a subcommittee to reexamine the current curricula and courses, putting forward suggestions for restructuring the existing courses for upgrading the knowledge base and reducing redundancy.  Based on the outcome of the group activities, a reformed core curriculum will be developed that will be shared with other medical schools in China. The new curriculum will be followed by a series of training workshops for Peking's leading teachers. The project also intends to contribute position papers and conduct joint projects on post graduate education. All of this work will be done engaging the four CMB medical education centers.
