CMB-CP in Burden of Diseases in China

This project creates a China Burden of Disease Research and Dissemination Center (CBDRDC) based at Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) in collaboration with the University of Washington and Queensland University. The Center will monitor the changing burden of disease to support critical evidence-based policymaking. The CMB-CP will consolidate four functionary platforms of resource sharing (through developing and sharing instruments, methodologies, database and dissemination via distance education), policy dialogue (through holding seminars), research (of disease and region specific studies) and capacity building (through developing training courses and educating post-docs).In December 2012, Trustees approved an appropriation of $500,000 to support the CMB Collaborating Program named the PUMC China Burden of Disease Research and Dissemination Center (CBDRDC).This modification reports to Trustees that in the final Grant Notification Letter, a reduction of the grant amount was achieved to align the budget with conformity with standards established for all CMB Collaborating Programs. CMB-CPs have received $300,000 for three years, and in this case of PUMC, we have added an additional $150,000 to cover the cost of a policy dialogue on the global burden of disease. The earlier appropriation request did not correctly budget these two distinctively different purposes.
