Capacity Building in Medical Education in China

The goal of this five year proposal of $297,895 is to build faculty capacity in medical education in China through a collaboration between China Medical University and FAIMER (The Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research). The specific objectives are to strengthen skills in education methodology, in education leadership and management, and developing a professional community of educational expertise and practice. Establishment of a “China FAIMER Institute” will begin with a planning meeting in the first year, followed by virtual communication, and another planning meeting in the second year. Launch of the China-FAIMER Institute will be achieved by the end of the first 24 months.In years 3-5, two cohorts of 20 fellows each will participate in the program. Four faculty leaders will be admitted as Fellows in the FAIMER institute with residential sessions based in Philadelphia. These leaders will become the core faculty at CMU and work in developing the China FAIMER Institute. The project will produce leadership of 40 Chinese health professions faculty members with a China institutional base for future work.
