Building Capacity for Doctoral Nursing Education

This 3-year joint proposal between Peking University Health Sciences Center and Fudan University aims to build capacity for doctoral level nursing education in China. The budget share allocated to Peking is $350,000, with the remaining $200,000 going to Fudan. Development of the doctoral programs will entail curriculum development bolstered by advanced training abroad of key faculty members. Each school will pursue three sets of activities – curriculum development, faculty preparation, and doctoral course offerings in Chinese. PUHSC and Fudan will develop curricula that meet the needs of each institution and submit them for evaluation by national and international experts. Faculty strengthening will be achieved by sponsoring eligible faculty members from the CMB nursing network to participate in the University of Arizona’s “Global Research Core Certificate for Credit” which has a brief in-residence component accompanied by distance learning supplementation. A total of 15 Chinese faculty members will achieve these certificates in three years. In China, a “Core Ph.D. Nursing Course Workshop” will be organized jointly by PUHSC and Fudan -- developed in Chinese and offered either on-site or online.
