Throughout its history, the China Medical Board has adopted a policy of not accepting unsolicited grant proposals. Thus, inquiries or unsolicited proposals may not receive an expeditious reply. The rationale is straightforward—CMB's strategic grant-making is highly focused on targeted activities to advance its mission. In its earliest phase, the China Medical Board devoted nearly all of its financing to Peking Union Medical College. Since 1950, the China Medical Board’s grant-making has been targeted at key Chinese and Asian universities. CMB encourages international groups wishing to work in China to establish relationships directly with CMB-affiliated Chinese and Asian institutions.

  • This three-year grant of $399,850 supports PUHSC’s new Department of Global Health in the School of Public Health to develop the field of global health in China through training, research, forums, and consortium development. Research will focus on China-Africa relations and help the government craft a national policy statement on global health. The program will also support PUHSC's bringing together of interested medical universities into a consortium.

  • This HPSS Residency Program is designed to provide on-the-job training for junior faculty interested in health policy and systems research, akin to a medical residency program, in order to produce a new cadre of young HPSS researchers with the capacity to conduct independent, policy-relevant and scientifically-rigorous. This program is tailored to answer a set of pre-identified research questions related to county hospital reform and gives priorities to training on applied social science theories and methods. It consists of: 1) three in-person one-week training courses; 2) three 2-3 days long-distance meetings in between the courses; 3) guided research projects conducted by participating institutions.
