CMB Distinguished Professorship Awards

The CMB Distinguished Professorship Awards, introduced in 2008, provide financial support and professional recognition to faculty at CMB-affiliated medical universities, so that these outstanding medical professionals can pursue their interests in research, teaching, clinical practice, and collaboration. The most recent cohort of Distinguished Professors represents diverse interests: these individuals have expertise in fields such as mental health, rheumatology, stem cell research, public health, and oncology.

CMB President Lincoln Chen Honored with Chinese Friendship Award

China Medical Board President Lincoln C. Chen received the People’s Republic of China Friendship Award, the highest honor that China confers upon foreigners, at a ceremony in the Great Hall of the People on September 29, 2010. Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang (张德江) made the presentation to Dr. Chen and 49 other individuals for their support of China’s economic and social development through sharing of knowledge, expertise, and technologies.

CMB Nursing Network Meets in Beijing

The deans of the eight schools in the CMB Nursing Network discussed ways to advance their shared interests in PhD training, policy research, and community nursing at an August 19 meeting at Peking Union Medical College (PUMC). The network is a channel for nursing programs at CMB-supported universities in China to cooperate in strengthening nursing education, particularly at the PhD level, and in seeking ideas and models from other countries that might be adapted for application in China.

Hong Kong Tobacco Control Study Tour

On June 21-26, 2010 in Hong Kong, a tobacco control training program and study tour took place at the School of Public Health at the University of Hong Kong with excellent coordination and logistical support by Sun Yat-Sen University School of Public Health.

CMB Presidents Council Meeting in Guangzhou

On June 15-16, 2010, CMB trustees and presidents and vice presidents of CMB Chinese grantee universities met in Guangzhou, China the 2010 CMB Presidents Council Meeting. This meeting, held every two years, was hosted at Sun Yat Sen University (SYSU) and supported by CMB.

CMB Trustee Field Trips

In the week leading up the June board meeting on June 14, 2010, CMB trustees embarked on an ambitious schedule of travel to various CMB grantees in Vietnam, Myanmar, Tibet, and Sichuan province in China. The purpose of these trips was to expose trustees to CMB’s work in Southeast Asia and to rural health in Western China.

CMB June Board Meeting in Beijing

On June 14, 2010, CMB held its semi-annual board meeting at the Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) Chapel in Beijing. This was the first board meeting to be held in China since CMB 75th anniversary ceremonies in 2006.

Beijing Launch of China Center and Lancet Series II

In Beijing on April 27, 2010, a dual launch ceremony was held to mark the inauguration of the China Center for China Health Development and the Lancet China Health Series II. The China Center launch marked an important milestone in CMB’s health policy and systems sciences (HPS) program after the first announcement of the program at the CMB President's Council meeting in 2008.

CMB President Visits Mongolia

In April 2010, CMB President Lincoln Chen visited Mongolia for four days. In the national capital of Ulaan Baatar, Lincoln was able to call on the President of the Health Sciences University of Mongolia, Professor Lkhagvasuren Tserenkhuugyin, and the Vice Minister of Health, Dr. Tsolmon Jadamba. The meetings provided an opportunity for CMB and Mongolia to review the status of its relationship, pointing towards future collaboration.
