Centennial Celebrations

CMB’s centennial year culminated in a number of celebratory events in Beijing, September 19-22, 2014. Joined by over 250 participants from more than 10 countries, the celebration was conducted as a series of collaborative exercises between CMB trustees and the Chinese government, Peking Union Medical College, Peking University Health Sciences Center, and partner universities throughout China and neighboring Asian countries. The events underscored the breadth of relationships that had been sustained over the course of a century of medical philanthropy.

Prior to the Beijing celebrations, CMB convened three other centennial events:

In New York, CMB co-hosted a seminar on “American Philanthropy in China” with the Asia Society's Center on U.S.-China Relations on June 5, 2014. The seminar provided an opportunity to consider both the history and future of philanthropy in China.

In Seoul, CMB hosted a workshop on a workshop on East Asia health futures on April 11-12, 2014. Representatives of schools of medicine, public health, and nursing surveyed the historical development of East Asia’s medical education system and discussed ways to transform medical education in the 21st century.

In Bangkok, CMB hosted a 100th anniversary celebration dinner on January 27, 2014. This was an occasion for CMB to give thanks for long-standing partnerships, review the history of its work in Asia, and look forward to a second century.
